Volunteers will learn how to clean, sort, and package donated eyeglasses and read prescriptions using a lensometer.

Sorted glasses will be delivered to ALERT to aid in both local and international missions. Nonprescription readers and sunglasses will be donated to West Valley Genealogical Society and Heavens Healing Hands.

Raising Our Roots Genealogy Workshop

Discover your history. Reconnect with your heritage. Preserve your family’s story for generations to come.

Raising Our Roots is a powerful 4-part genealogy and cultural preservation workshop series designed to help individuals and families explore identity, ancestry, DNA connections, historical records, and the stories that shaped their legacy.

Through interactive sessions, participants will learn how to begin tracing their family history, navigate records and archives, understand DNA matches, and overcome common genealogy barriers—especially those impacting Black and historically underserved communities.

Workshop Sessions:

  • August 8th — Introduction to Genealogy

  • September 12th — Records and Research

  • October 10th — DNA & Family Connections

  • November 14th — Breaking Through Barriers
